Due to its history background and geographical location, Terengganu receives cultural influences from the neighbor in the north: Kelantan and Thailand. Though it is conservative Muslim state, the general public is still enjoying the freedom of worship. If you look more in Terengganu, an east coast state of Peninsular Malaysia, you wonder that the world's finest craftsmen such as songket weavers, batik painters, woodcarvers and boat makers can be found in Terengganu.

Wau

Kite flying is a popular traditional pastime in Terengganu, especially during harvest time. Apart from the performance and appearance, the sound it makes when flying is considered important as well. There are various types of kites such as wau kuching (cat kite), wau merak (peacock kite), and wau bulan (moon kite). Each kite also comes with a different design and size. The mark of a good kite is one that rises quickly and remains flying, no matter what the whims of the wind may be.Normally, the wau is played after the paddy harvesting seasons or when the fishermen cannot go to fishing due the conditions of the sea. The best time to play the wau is in August and September.

Gasing
Giant top spinning is no child’s game! Each gasing or top weighs approximately 5kg and the wooden tops are as big as the size of a dinner plate. It calls for strength, coordination, and skill. The gasing, if expertly hurled, can spin for as long as 2 hours. Top spinning competitions are an annual feature in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia especially Kelantan and Terengganu.
 Congkak
Congkak is a game of wit played by womenfolk in ancient times. This game is usually played by 2 girls sitting face to face on the ground, using rubber seeds, saga or small marbles as the seeds. Seeds are points for the players. Total seed used depends on the number of pit in the congkak set. Say, if there are 5 pits, the total seed in each pit will be five and so on. The left most is the ‘Home’ for the player.
To start the game, player chooses to take all the seeds from one pit and place one at a time into another pit including the player’s Home, moving in clockwise. Seeds are not to be put in opponent’s Home. If the last seeds in a play is placed in the player’s Home, she will be granted another turn on the other hand, if the last seed is placed in an empty pit on her side of the board, she will capture the seeds in the opposite pit and place in her own Home. The game will carry on till all the pits on one side are empty. The winner is the player who captured the most seeds.
Traditional Dances
Tarian Anak Burung Baniong
Originating from Kampung Kuala Jingai in Hulu Dungun Terengganu, this ethnic dance also known as Tarian Saba. The dancers perform around the Saba tree to traditional music and the sound created by a bamboo-like device called 'kumbang'. The dance is a combination of three art forms, namely song, music and dance.

Besides that, there still have others beautiful traditional dances in Terengganu culture such as Tarian Ulek Mayang, Tarian Gamelan, Tarian Roda, Tarian Balai and so on.

 Trishaw

Trishaw, also known as tricycle rickshaw, is undeniably one of the unique attractions in Terengganu. Most of the tourists will be amazed on the efforts of decoration put on the trishaws. Most if not all, of the trishaws in Terengganu are mounted with the seat cabin side-by-side.
In older days, before the rolling of industrialization age in Malaysia, trishaw was used as one of the main public transportation modes by residents. Due to the modernization of lifestyle and popularization of other efficient transportation alternatives, trishaw has eventually been phased out from daily life of local residents.
Terengganu is one of the states which has richest cultural and heritage of the Peninsular Malay State. So,  it is very suitable for those people who have interests in culture and heritage.
